Let’s face the music and dance

So John Sergeant waltzed off Strictly Come Dancing with his tearful partner Kristina Rihanoff last night. I have to admit I was more angry than tearful. When did Saturday night entertainment become a do or die event. Isn’t it the taking part that counts?

John Sergeant made millions of men, women and children smile every Saturday night. On cold, dark and wintry evenings he brought a glow into our living rooms. Congratulations to him and Kristina.

So why am I a little angry? Well what was the point in inviting the poor man onto the show in the first place? Was he meant to be a laughing stock, a court jester for the first couple of shows and then the public duly vote him off? I guess so. But what transpired was that he became loved for his gentile behaviour, his sense of humour, his entertainment factor and the charm of his wonderful partner Rihanoff who stuck by him with a smile on her face. The public responded to this in their millions. Sadly though, everyone else on the show around the charming couple lost their heads and sense of humour and the knives were out leaving Mr. Sergeant with one option, the one he chose.

So well done John and Kristina, thank you for the laughs and the smiles and to all those that think that ‘Strictly’ is a serious dance contest, get a life! What do you think?
